I’m writing this post currently cuddled up in a very hygge coffee shop. Hygge (pronounced Hooga) is one of my favortite things in the world! It’s hard to explain what Hygge is because it doesn’t have a direct translation to English. Hygge is known as the Danish way to live well, it’s been called everything from ‘the absence of annoyance’ to ‘cosy togetherness.’ Hygge is all about atmosphere, not about things. It’s about being with the people we love, a feeling that we are home and safe, or just enjoying a cup of tea by yourself.
Spending the last few days in Copenhagen and I have fallen in love. Everywhere I go I’m in awe of how hygge everything is. Everywhere is cosy and warm, the opposite of the freezing cold outside (it’s 1° outside right now)
Of course I have a book all about hygge. ‘The Little Book of Hygge’ by Meik Wiking. Meik Wiking is a writer who has the best job ever, he works at the Happiness Research Institute where he literally studies what makes people happy. If you’re interested in Hygge you should read this book. And if you’re interested in Copenhagen I’ll be posting more about it, including what to do and where to go when you’re here. Also photos, I’ll be posting a lot of photos! Check out my Instagram to see some I’ve already posted.
